Enhancing Biocontrol of Harmful Algae Blooms: Seasonal Variation in Allelopathic Capacity of Myriophyllum aquaticum

چکیده
Myriophyllum aquaticum has shown potential allelopathic effects for the biocontrol of cyanobacteria and cyanotoxins. However, composition allelochemicals their biological may be influenced by seasonal changes. In this study, we investigated impact aqueous extracts M. collected in different seasons on growth Microcystis aeruginosa concentration microcystin-LR. Plant samples were extracted using ultrasound cycles solutions, at varying concentrations (0.1, 10, 100 mg/L) a control treatment inoculated with aeruginosa, cell was analyzed Neubauer chamber. Photosynthetic pigment quantification used to measure physiological liquid chromatography evaluate microcystin-LR concentrations. The plants during autumn winter exhibited higher inhibition reduction photosynthetic pigments compared those spring summer. These results can explained presence phenolic compounds from winter. Microcystin-LR decreased 10 mg/L, highest efficiency observed autumn, while showed lower efficiency. Our findings suggest that have inhibitory particularly season, making them promising nature-based solution harmful algal blooms.

Spatial Interaction Filters for Monitoring Harmful Algae Blooms
In this paper, the authors use Spatial Interaction Filters (SIF) to simulate human experts’ visual process in tracking spatial interactive objects. The algorithm includes spatial density based pixel clustering and object interaction descriptions, such as Contact Area Index (CAI) and correlation filter. The algorithm is designed to automatically track the Harmful Algae Bloom (HAB) targets. In th...
متن کاملSeasonal and interannual dynamics of polyphenols in Myriophyllum verticillatum and their allelopathic activity on Anabaena variabilis
In 4 successive years, we investigated the seasonal and interannual variability of the total polyphenolic pool and of the individual polyphenolic compounds in Myriophyllum verticillatum, as well as their allelopathic activity in a small eutrophic lake. We tested whether nutrient availability explained interannual and seasonal changes in the production of polyphenols. There were no strong intera...
متن کاملEffects of harmful algal blooms on competitors: Allelopathic mechanisms of the red tide dinoflagellate Karenia brevis
Because competitive interactions may have led to adaptations enabling bloom-forming phytoplankton to dominate pelagic communities, we explored the allelopathic effects of one red tide dinoflagellate, Karenia brevis, on competing phytoplankton species. Exposure to waterborne compounds from natural K. brevis blooms resulted in growth inhibition or death for four of five co-occurring species teste...
متن کاملMyriophyllum aquaticum Constructed Wetland Effectively Removes Nitrogen in Swine Wastewater
Removal of nitrogen (N) is a critical aspect in the functioning of constructed wetlands (CWs), and the N treatment in CWs depends largely on the presence and activity of macrophytes and microorganisms. However, the effects of plants on microorganisms responsible for N removal are poorly understood. In this study, a three-stage surface flow CW was constructed in a pilot-scale within monospecies ...
متن کاملA Model for the Prediction of Harmful Algae Blooms in the Vietnamese Upwelling Area
Satellite pictures and in-situ observations indicate strong phytoplankton blooms including harmful algae blooms (HABs) during southwest (SW) summer monsoon in the Vietnamese upwelling area. In this period, nutrients are provided by coastal upwelling and by the very high river runoff from the Mekong River. During SW monsoon, in general two circulation patterns exist which allow the prediction of...
